Buy a cocktail and help black cats!

October is National Black Cat Month and local bars will be selling Black Cat Cocktails to help raise awareness and funds for Bluebell Ridge Cat Rehoming Centre.

Next month is about raising awareness of the beautiful black cats in animal shelters that have to wait longer to be adopted due to the colour of their fur. There are many superstitions associated with black cats which stops some people from adopting them.

The Black Cat cocktail, which contains cherry brandy, coke, cranberry juice and vodka, will be available to buy from Monday 1st October until Wednesday 31st from:

The Drift In Cafe Bar
91-92 Queens Road, Hastings TN34 1RL

Tin Tins
21 Robertson Street, Hastings TN34 1HL

The Stag Inn
14 All Saints Street, Hastings TN34 3BJ

All venues will be giving a donation for each Black Cat cocktail sale to Bluebell Ridge who are owned and operated by the Sussex East and Hastings Branch of the RSPCA. The Branch is a separate charity within the national body and are entirely self-funded, which means that each year they have to raise over £150,000 to continue with their vital work.

Nikki Hawes at Bluebell Ridge said, "There are many times when our black cats have been overlooked purely because of their colour. All cats deserve the chance of a better life and we are really grateful to all of the venues that are supporting our work."

DSH Black female, 5-6 years old. Hettie is a very beautiful girl with a stunning jet-black coat.  Hettie can be affectionate and playful and also has an independent side. She would suit a home where she can choose the comfort of indoors or explore the outdoors in a large garden. Hettie would like an older family with no young children, that will give her the time and care that she needs to adapt to her new environment.  She is very sensitive to sudden movements and noise within the home, so would need a quiet and calm home.
DSH Black male, 2 years old.Matthew is a loving boy who enjoys human company. He is friendly and loves the attention. He can be a little shy at times, but with reassurance, he soon forgets to be nervous. He is a lovely lad who will be a lovely companion.
Black DSH, male, 4 years old approx.Donald is a shy but very affectionate boy when you sit quietly with him. He enjoys a fuss and attention. He is a ruggedly handsome chap who has been in the wars and if only he could talk, he'd have a few tales to tell. He is healing very well after having a large abscess on his neck, and is very nearly there.  He would suit an older family in a quiet home.
