Lily is crowned Bluebell Ridge Cat of the Year

Lily, a three-year-old tabby, who was adopted from the centre in 2016, has won the Bluebell Ridge Cat of the Year 2017 title after her owner, Jan Thompson, wrote a beautiful poem all about her wonderful companion, which won the hearts of the judges.

As the winner of the Cat of the Year
award, Lily received a hamper of goodies, which were kindly donated by Lily's Kitchen and her photo will be on display at the centre.

In response to Lily winning the prize, her owner Jan said: "I am delighted for Lily that she was selected, although to me she will always be Cat of the Year - She is an absolute treasure, I can't imagine my life without her now. I thought I was doing her a big favour by giving her a home, but nothing could be further from the truth - she has given me so much more than I can ever give her."

Nikki Hawes, Income Generation & Marketing Officer for Bluebell Ridge said: "Jan's poem defines the beautiful bond that she has with Lily and it is wonderful to hear how a cat can change a persons life. We would like to thank everyone who entered the competition - we had so many wonderful entries and we enjoyed reading about affectionate, calming and mischievous cats."

Lily
By Jan Thompson

Two pointy ears that hear the drop of a pin,
Bright orange eyes, that watch everything.
A tiny maroon, not a pink nose,
And four white feet, with missing toes!
Soft, silky, tabby fur,
And an incredibly loud rumble purr!
That's Lily, my little cat,
but Oh, shes so much more than that.
My constant companion, we happily share our days,
Enjoying each other's company, in so many ways.
Whatever shes up to, she is a bundle of fun,
Lively, and curious, but nervous of every-one.
And when I'm out and about and not in,
Lily's happy doing her own thing.
But when I return home and open the door,
Four little paws charge over the floor,
Before I can even put down my key,
Lily's weaving around my legs, with glee.
Together we always enjoy our day,
With Lily busy engaged in play,
Chasing a ball or a piece of flax,
Or simply sitting with me ...relaxed.
At night, we wander off to bed,
Lily snuggles beside me, for a rub of her head.
After padding up and down with her tiny feet,
She curls in a ball, all tidy and neat.
As I gently stroke her soft tabby fur,
I listen to her rumble purr.
Later, silently, I sit and peep.
At my angelic cat asleep.
Lilys life might have had a bad start,
But she didnt let that harden her heart.
Without so much as a backward glance,
She decided to give humans another chance.
So, I do my best to try and repay,
The trust she shows me day by day.
But neither she or I, could have guessed or known,
How our bond of love has grown and grown.
I had no idea adopting Lily from the RSPCA,
Would change my life in every way,
Yes, I no longer live alone,
But Lily's made my house. a HOME.

Tortie DLH female, 10 1/2 years old.Bootzie is an elegant looking girl who would suit a quiet and calm house with no other pets, she would benefit from a routine to help her settle. Bootzie is shy and unsure of new people. She needs an owner who understands that it may take her a long time to become comfortable in a new home. She is very affectionate on her terms, she like to rub round your legs and hands. We have found she likes to be the one to make contact with us, but can panic when she is touched in return if she's not expecting it.
Black DSH male, 10 years old approx.Jingles is a sweet, gentle lad with different coloured eyes, making him very unique. He can be a little shy initially, but when used to his surroundings, gains in confidence and enjoys a gentle fuss. He would make a good companion cat and would ideally prefer one-on-one attention or a calm, quiet household where he can be himself and develop his loving character. He would also like to be the only pet of the household.
Tortie DSH female, 13 years old approx.Mavis is a chatty lady who loves a fuss and a cuddle. Mavis is being treated for a thyroid condition which means she has one tablet twice a day to keep things stable. She is very good at taking her medication which is added to her food. She really deserves to find her forever home where she can receive all of the love that she needs.Mavis is currently in a foster home. Please speak to a member of staff for more information. We will be happy to tell you all about her.
